As both an attorney and an NRA-certified firearms instructor, I founded Personal Firearms Consultation, L.L.C., to provide a service which I believe is needed.
That service is to provide those who want to own or use defensive handguns the knowledge and training to use firearms safely and legally. An important part of this service includes providing competent and knowledgeable instruction and training to those wishing to get Michigan's Concealed Pistol License (CPL), or what some refer to as a CCW. It is my firm belief that I offer the best CPL classes in Michigan.
To provide this service, I offer both private and group lessons in 4 classes: Basic Pistol, Personal Protection in the Home, Concealed Carry Techniques and CPL Renewal.
My background uniquely qualifies me to provide instruction in both the safe and legal use of handguns.
- I graduated from the United States Army Infantry Officer's Candidate School, Fort Benning, GA, where I was trained as a light weapons infantry platoon leader.
- I am a licensed and practicing litigation attorney who has presented and argued cases in both state and federal courts for the last 27 years.
- Firearms law, both state and federal, is one area of my legal expertise. I have taught this law to Michigan residents in firearms classes for over a dozen years.
- I have been licensed to carry a concealed firearm for over 20 years.
- I am certified by the NRA as an instructor for Pistol, Home Firearm Safety, Personal Protection in the Home, Metallic Cartridge Reloading, Shotgun Shell Reloading, as well as a Range Safety Officer.
- I am on the NRA's referral list of Michigan attorneys both to teach firearms classes as well as to deal with legal issues regarding firearms.
- I have also received advanced handgun training, as well as Close Quarters Combat and Defensive Shotgun training from some of the nation's premier instructors including Randy Cain from Cumberland Tactics, Steve Tarani from Operational Skills Group, Bank Miller, formerly the chief firearms instructor at SIG Arms Academy and Dave Spaulding from the Police Institute of Tactical Training.
- As a trial attorney, as well as a former teacher at both the high school and university level, I have extensive experience in imparting practical and academic knowledge to others.
- As a member of the National Rifle Association, Michigan Coalition of Responsible Gun Owners and Michigan Gun Owners, I am an active and strong supporter of, and advocate for, the right to keep and bear arms on both nationally and right here in Michigan.
This background gives me a unique perspective and expertise in teaching my classes in Basic Pistol, Personal Protection in the Home (the class needed to get Michigan's Concealed Pistol License, or a CPL), Concealed Carry Techniques and CPL Renewal. I provide knowledgeable and individualized instruction in each course, whether it is a private or a group class. Additionally, each class I present not only thoroughly covers information about defensive handguns and how to use them but also examines issues related to firearms and the law, including criminal and civil liability issues and the use of deadly force.
